I live in Wynnewood, PA and work in the Philadelphia area. I have been an amateur/emerging photographer since 2011. My primary occupation has been as a teacher of The Alexander Technique and T’ai Chi Ch’uan, but for 22 years I was also a professional dancer and choreographer.
In my fine art photography I have a penchant for graphic drama. I like to explore environmental settings that include the juxtaposition of man-made and living elements especially when they show natural decay, human neglect or destruction in interesting ways or new construction in those sites. In these settings, visual rhythms and surprising spatial relationships are created by groups of people, architectural components, shadows, mysterious frames and reflections. A viewer is drawn into these spaces without necessarily knowing where they are.
But most of my work is about people, relationships and movement. Documentary photography is a way for me to connect to people and their circumstances or their message. It keeps me involved with the performing and martial arts. I wish to use photographs to promote change in the world, particularly for people struggling with limited resources and a poor quality of life. To that end I have been donating photographs to non-profit organizations committed to helping people in need or artists as well as to individual performing and martial artists.
